Last Friday it 1) was my birthday. I usually go out to celebrate, but this year I decided to cook dinner for my friends at home. What a mistake! As soon as I finished work I 2) went straight home to start cooking because the invitations were for 8 o’clock. First of all, I 3) put the chicken in the oven, then I prepared the vegetables. When I finished peeling, dicing and stirring, it was 6:45 pm. I 4) set the table quickly and went upstairs to get dressed. Meanwhile the smell of cooking filled the house. I was downstairs again by 7:30 pm. I 5) took the chicken out of the oven and arranged all the food nicely on the table. When I finished everything, I 6) had just enough time to go and get some flowers. I rushed out of the house and quickly walked towards the shops. I 7) bought some beautiful roses and was back outside my front door ten minutes later. Suddenly, I realised I 8) didn’t have my keys! I 9) ran round the house checking windows and doors. No luck! Finally my friends arrived. At 8:00 pm, everything was ready and everybody was there. The only problem was that we 10) were outside the dining room window, flowers in hand, watching the perfect birthday meal go cold.

Когда я закончил очищать, резать и перемешивать, было уже 18.45. Я быстро поставил стол и пошёл наверх одеваться. Между тем запах с кухни заполнил дом. Я спустился вниз к 19.30. Я вытащил курицу из духовки и расставил всю еду на столе. Когда я все закончил, у меня было еще достаточно времени, чтобы сбегать за цветами. Я выбежал из дома и быстро направился к магазину. Я купил несколько красивых роз и вернулся к двери своего дома за десять минут. Вдруг я понял, что у меня нет ключей! Я оббежал вокруг дома, проверяя окна и двери. Безуспешно. Наконец пришли мои друзья. В 20.00 все было готово и все были там. Одна проблема — мы были снаружи дома, за окном столовой, с цветами в руке, смотря как превосходный праздничный ужин остывает.
